Hospital fire safety and hospital fire precautions are covered by Firecode & Health Technical Memoranda known as HTM.s
HTM 81 covers fire precautions in new hospitals built since 1978
(now HTM 05 series)
HTM 85 covers fire precautions in existing hospitals
(now HTM 05 series)
HTM 86 covers fire risk assessment in hospitals
(now HTM 05 series)
Hospital fire safety is covered each year when the hospital Chief Executive signs a document to state that :-
-
The risk to patients, visitors and employee's arising from the risk of fire, is being effectively managed ;
-
Procedures are in place to ensure continuing fire safety management
Many UK NHS Trusts, LHB.s and
PCT.s have well qualified fire safety officers in each of their hospitals to carry out the day to day Fire Safety Training and when time permits Fire Risk Assessments.
Many rely on one Fire Safety Officer to deal with all their hospitals.
More and more are buying in their Fire Safety Consultancy on an as required basis and sub-contracting the day to day hospital fire safety training for the whole year in order to release their in-house staff to carry out the hospital fire risk assessments.
All the above have merit and it goes without saying that Fire Service International Ltd has a vested interest in the latter or in assisting any Trust which needs to strengthen its team for a specific hospital fire safety purpose.
It may be that in-house staff are fully committed on training and have little time to carry out in depth Fire Risk Assessments or vice versa and require the services of our competent Fire Risk Assessors and Fire Safety Trainers.
It may simply be that an outside or second opinion is required to support in-house recommendations to
the Board.
In any event Fire Service International Ltd will be pleased to assist.
